The Advocacy Training Council (ATC) has a constitutional commitment to respond to requests for assistance in advocacy training from overseas jurisdictions – particularly in the developing world.
Since its inception in 2004 under the Chairmanship of Edwin Glasgow CBE QC, the ATC has initiated, organised and participated in many overseas training programmes, including in India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Australia, Bermuda, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Africa. The Council has also provided training programmes for International Criminal Tribunals, including the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Court.
The ATC will continue to work alongside overseas jurisdictions to develop, enhance and expand advocacy training programmes, helping to maintain the status and standing of the courts and to ensure the rule of law.
The Council will maintain its ‘seed corn’ approach, working alongside local members of the legal profession, allowing them to develop and implement their own advocacy training provision, and continue developing their own training programmes after the conclusion of the Council’s visit.
